Grateful and Generous Is the Fun Part

"Being grateful for what you currently have and being generous and giving it all away, that's actually the most fun part."

I mean that literally. The most fun part. Not the duty, not the moral lesson, the fun.

Most of us were taught the opposite order. Chase first. Get enough. Then, someday, be grateful and give some back. That order keeps people waiting their whole lives for the part that was supposed to be the reward. The one idea in this piece: grateful and generous is not what you get to do after the game. It is how you play the game well right now.

Life is a game, and this is the good part of it

"Life is not a battle, life is a game, and we get to play this game of life on this playground that God created."

If life is a battle, then everything you have is ammunition. You guard it. You hoard it. You never feel like you have enough, because in a battle, you never do.

If life is a game, everything changes. You play. You share. You enjoy the people on the field with you. Gratitude is just noticing that you are already on the playground. Generosity is inviting other people to play.

I wrote more about why the battle frame is something we were taught, not something we have to keep, in Life Is Not a Battle. It's a Game.

Gratitude starts with what you currently have

Notice the word in that line: currently. Not what you will have when the next thing lands. What you have today.

Most people skip this because they are looking forward. The next goal, the next level, the next milestone. There is nothing wrong with building toward something. I love to build. But if you only feel good about the thing you do not have yet, you will never feel good, because the next thing always moves.

What you currently have is a lot. Your skills. The people who trust you. The things you have learned the hard way. The gift that makes you who you are.

This week, write down five things you already have that you would have been thrilled to have five years ago. Read the list out loud. That is gratitude in its plainest form: seeing clearly what is already here.

Generosity is sharing your song

"Everyone's got some sort of genius, some sort of gift. I call it the song that you came to sing that your soul wants to sing and share with the world."

Generosity is not only about things. The biggest thing you can be generous with is your gift. The song you came to sing.

A lot of people hold theirs back. They wait until they are more qualified, more polished, more ready. Meanwhile the people who need what they know go without it.

Being generous with your gift looks like teaching someone what you know. Answering a question fully instead of holding back the good part. Sharing the method you use with clients so more people can get the result. Your knowledge is one of the few things you can give away without having less of it.

Pick one person this week who could use what you know. Give it to them, fully, with no ask attached. Then notice how it feels.

Grateful and generous changes how you build

There is a practical side to this that people miss.

When you build from lack, everything feels urgent. Every sale matters too much. Every slow week feels like a verdict on your worth. You hold back your best ideas because you are afraid someone will take them. You price from fear, launch from fear, and talk to buyers from fear. People can feel that, even when they cannot name it.

When you build from gratitude, you start from what you already have. You know your gift is real because you have watched it help people. That steadiness shows up in everything. You teach more freely. You explain your method fully instead of hiding the good part. You stop treating every person as a transaction and start treating them as someone you get to help.

And when you build from generosity, you stop asking "what can I get from this person?" and start asking "what does this person need that I already know?" That second question is the one that leads to things people actually want.

None of this makes the work easy. It makes the work lighter. Those are different. Easy means less effort. Lighter means the effort does not come with a weight of fear attached to it.

Think about the last thing you built or offered. Did it come from what you were afraid of missing, or from what you were glad to give? Be honest. Then try making the next one from the second place.

Why most people skip the fun part

"They get conditioned and programmed into this reality that we live in that is ego driven."

That conditioning tells you to amass before you give. To prove you are worthy before you feel grateful. It turns the fun part into a finish line you never reach.

You do not have to accept that order. It was handed to you. You can choose a different one. Start with grateful. Move to generous. Let the building come from there.

When you play that way, the work changes too. You are not building to fill a hole. You are building to share something you already know is good. That is a very different kind of energy, and people can feel it.

Why I built Freedom Builderz around this

Freedom Builderz was built so people do not have to die without sharing their gifts. That is basically it in a nutshell. Everyone comes here with a song to sing, and we get to build the stage. Being generous with your gift is the whole point of the stage, and I write about why that matters so much to me in Don't Die Without Sharing Your Gift. A stage just makes it possible to share with far more people than you could reach one conversation at a time.

If this landed and you want the plan for building something that shares your gift without needing you in every room, start with the Playbook.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between gratitude and generosity?

Gratitude is noticing what you already have. Generosity is sharing it. One faces inward and one faces outward, and they feed each other. It is hard to give freely from a place of lack, and it is hard to stay grateful for something you keep locked away. Practiced together, they change how the whole day feels.

How do I practice gratitude when I feel behind?

Start with what is true right now, not what you hope is coming. Name the skills, people, and experiences you already have. Feeling behind usually means you are measuring against a future version of your life. Gratitude moves your attention back to the present, which is the only place you can actually build from.

Why does generosity make people happier?

Because it puts you in the part of life that feels most alive: giving something real to someone who needs it. Most people delay generosity until they feel they have enough. The people who give from what they have now tend to find that it is the most enjoyable part of the whole game.

How can I be generous with my skills and knowledge?

Teach what you know to someone who needs it. Answer a question fully instead of holding back. Share the method you use with your clients. Your knowledge is one of the easiest things to be generous with, because giving it away does not leave you with less of it.
