"Everyone confuses freedom and money, but that's not true freedom. True freedom is knowing who you truly are and stepping into your true identity, not one that you've been conditioned or given. That's true freedom to me. And it doesn't require one dollar, not one."
I believe that all the way down. And I know it sounds strange coming from someone whose company has "freedom" right in the name.
So let me be clear about what this piece is and isn't. This isn't about money. I'm not going to tell you how to think about money. This is about the other thing. The thing people mistake money for.
Freedom is an identity question first
Most people think freedom is something you get. A number. A lifestyle. A day when you don't have to answer to anybody.
I think freedom is something you are. It's knowing who you truly are, and living as that person.
That changes where you look for it. If freedom is out there, you spend your life chasing it. If freedom is who you are, you can start today, wherever you're standing.
It also explains something I see a lot. People who have every option in the world and still feel trapped. They got the things. They're still living as someone they never chose to be. That's not freedom. That's a nicer cage.
The reverse is true too. Freedom doesn't wait on a number. The moment you stop performing for people who aren't even watching, something loosens. You don't need anybody's permission for that. You don't need to hit a goal first. You can start living as yourself on an ordinary weekday, with exactly what you have right now.
That's why I say it doesn't require one dollar. Not because money is bad. Because it's a different thing entirely, and mixing them up sends people chasing the wrong one for decades.
A lot of who you are was handed to you
Here's the hard part. "Everything's made up. Your name is made up. Your identity is made up. But a lot of times what made up that identity, you didn't consent to it. It was just given to you."
Think about that for a second. The way you see yourself. What you think you're good at. What you think you're allowed to want. A lot of that came from somewhere. Family. School. The first job. The people who told you what was realistic.
Some of it's good. Keep that. But some of it you never agreed to. You just picked it up and carried it because nobody told you that you could put it down.
I go deeper on this in The Identity You Never Consented To. The short version: you get to choose again.
That's the good news hiding in the hard part. If the identity was made up, it can be made up differently. You're not stuck with the version of you that was handed over before you were old enough to question it. You can look at each piece and ask, did I choose this? Do I want to keep it? Then decide.
Stepping into it happens in small choices
People hear "step into your true identity" and picture some huge moment. Quitting everything. Moving across the world.
It's usually smaller than that. It's a Tuesday. It's saying yes to the thing that actually sounds like you and no to the thing you only do because you're supposed to.
Here's a way to start this week. Write down two lists. On one side, the parts of how you live that you actually chose. On the other, the parts that were handed to you and you never questioned. Don't judge either list. Just look at it.
Then pick one thing from the second list and make one different choice about it. Just one. That's what stepping into it looks like. Not a leap. A choice, then another choice.
It helps to pay attention to the moments you lose track of time. The work you'd do even if nobody paid you or clapped for you. The conversations where you feel most like yourself. Those are clues. They point at who you actually are, underneath what you were told to be. Write them down when you notice them. Over a few weeks, a picture shows up.
The work you do can be part of it, or it can bury it
This is where it touches business, and I want to be careful here.
A lot of experts built something that was supposed to set them free. Instead it turned them into someone they don't recognize. They're on calls all day, answering the same questions, saying yes to clients who don't fit, living as the version of themselves that pays the bills.
That's not a money problem. It's an identity problem. The business was built around someone else's picture of success, not around who they actually are.
The work you do can be where your real identity shows up the most. The thing you're naturally good at. The way you see problems that nobody else sees. That's your song. I wrote about it in The Song You Came to Sing.
When the work fits who you are, it feels like freedom even on a busy day. When it doesn't, no amount of anything fixes it.
Where this connects to Freedom Builderz
Freedom Builderz was built so that people don't have to die without sharing their gifts. Everyone comes here with a song to sing, and we get to build the stage. The name was never about money. It's about people getting to be who they actually are, out loud, and sharing that with the world. A business that needs you in every room can pull you further from that person. The point of building something that runs without you is making room to live as yourself.

Frequently asked questions
What is true freedom?
True freedom is knowing who you truly are and stepping into that identity, not one you were conditioned into or handed by someone else. It is an inside question before it is an outside one. You can have plenty of options and still not be free if you are living as someone you never chose to be.
Is freedom the same as financial freedom?
No. People confuse the two all the time. Financial freedom is about options. True freedom is about identity. You can chase the first your whole life and never touch the second, and you can step into the second without the first. It does not require one dollar.
How do you find your true identity?
Start by noticing which parts of who you are were chosen and which were handed to you. Ask what you would do if nobody was watching or grading you. Pay attention to the work that makes you lose track of time. Then make one small choice this week that matches that person, and keep making it.
Can you feel free while running a business?
Yes, if the business lets you be who you actually are. Many owners feel trapped because they built something that turned them into a person they do not recognize. Freedom in business starts with building around your real identity and your real gift, not around someone else's picture of success.
