"Every week I drive to Brett's house and I do personal training for the whole crew and then every week I do a group call for mindset and NLP related stuff."
I keep doing that while building a company for a simple reason. I'm a builder, and a builder needs a body that can carry the build.
Your ideas don't get tired. You do. The ideas will keep coming as long as you're breathing. The energy to act on them won't, unless you treat your health as part of the job instead of a break from it.
Your ideas don't get tired. You do.
Most founders have more ideas than time. That's not the problem. The problem shows up around the third straight month of long days, when the ideas are still there but the energy to build them is gone.
You've probably felt it. You sit down to write the email, record the lesson, or plan the launch, and nothing comes out. You know what to do. You just can't make yourself do it.
That's not a character flaw. It's a tank running low. And no amount of motivation refills a tank that's empty because nobody put anything back into it.
The build asks a lot of you. Long stretches of focus. Hard conversations. Decisions nobody else can make. If your body is running on empty, every one of those gets harder, and your best ideas stay in your head because you don't have the energy to get them out.
Health is part of the job
"Health fitness mindset stuff because that's my roots. That's where I came from."
I started as a fitness coach. So when I look at a founder who's exhausted, I don't see a time management problem first. I see someone who stopped training the thing that carries everything else.
Here's the shift. Most people treat health as a reward. Once the launch is done, once things calm down, once the business is where they want it, then they'll get back in the gym. But things don't calm down during a build. They just change shape. If health waits for the calm, it waits forever.
So flip it. Health isn't what you do after the work. It's part of the work, the same way writing the offer or filming the lessons is part of the work. It goes on the calendar with the same weight.
If there's no training on your calendar this week, that's the first thing to change. Not a new program. One appointment. Kept.
It also changes how you show up for everything else. The founder who trained this morning handles the hard client call differently than the one who slept four hours and skipped breakfast. Same person, same skills. Different tank. Your clients, your team, and the people at home all get whichever version of you the week left over.
Training is a weekly appointment, not a mood
The reason I train the crew every week isn't that I always feel like it. It's that it's every week. I wrote about what that practice keeps me close to in why I still train a crew every week.
Energy comes from consistency more than intensity. One brutal month of workouts that you abandon in week five does less than a steady weekly habit you keep for a year. The body responds to what you do over and over, not to what you do once when you're fired up.
The same is true of the mindset work. The weekly group call isn't a special event. It's a standing appointment. That's the point. Mindset, like strength, gets built by showing up on a schedule, especially on the weeks you don't want to.
If you're building something, try this. Pick one physical practice and one mindset practice. Give each a fixed day and time. Then keep them for the next eight weeks the way you'd keep a client call.
Busy on the wrong side drains you twice
There's one more place your energy goes that nobody talks about.
"You're not lazy. You're busy on the wrong side."
Posting another reel. Redesigning the website. Answering the same DM again. Recording ten more lessons instead of launching the ones you have. All of that feels like progress. It takes real energy. And a lot of it doesn't pay you.
That drains you twice. Once for the effort, and again when you look at the results and realize nothing moved. That second hit is the one that makes people want to quit. I dug into this in you're not lazy, you're busy on the wrong side.
Protecting your energy isn't only about the gym. It's also about pointing the energy you do have at the things that actually move the business. Build the thing people can buy. Write the email that makes an offer. Launch the ugly version. That kind of work gives energy back, because you can see it land.
Try this at the end of this week. Look back at where your hours went and sort them into two piles: things that built something people can buy, and things that just kept you busy. You don't need to feel bad about the second pile. You just need to move a few hours from it to the first one next week. That's how you stop spending your best energy on work that never pays you back.
Why this matters to the mission
Freedom Builderz was built so that people don't have to die without sharing their gifts. Everyone comes here with a song to sing, and we get to build the stage. But you can't sing from an empty tank. A business that needs you in every room will spend the energy your health needs, and one day the ideas are still there and the body to carry them isn't. Building something that doesn't need all of you is how you keep both.
If this landed and you want the plan for building something that does not need you in every room, start with the Playbook.
Frequently asked questions
How do founders keep their energy up while building a business?
Treat health as part of the work, not something you get to when the work is done. Put training and recovery on the calendar as fixed weekly appointments, protect sleep, and stop spending energy on tasks that feel productive but do not move the business. Energy is a resource the build depends on.
Why do entrepreneurs burn out even when the business is going well?
Because a growing business often grows by taking more of the founder. More clients means more calls, more messages, and more late nights. If the business is built so every result runs through you, success uses up the same energy that burnout does. The fix is structure, not more effort.
Does exercise really help with running a business?
For many founders, a regular training habit is what keeps them steady through the hard stretches of a build. It gives structure to the week, a place to reset, and a body that can handle long days. The key is consistency. A weekly appointment you keep does more than an intense month you abandon.
