Every builder in this space says some version of "guaranteed." Guaranteed results. Guaranteed ROI. Guaranteed success.
Most of those guarantees are written so they never have to be paid. No window. No remedy. No mention of what the client has to do. That is not a guarantee. It is a headline.
An honest guarantee prints both halves: what the builder owes you, and what you owe the build. If you are about to hand someone your life's work, you should be able to read that in one paragraph. This is how I read them, and how ours is written. It pairs with how we handle access after the sale, covered in Real Support Is Not a Login and a Group Chat.
A guarantee without a window is a mood
Start with time. "We guarantee your success" has no clock on it. When does it expire? When can you call it in?
A real guarantee names a window you can put on a calendar. It also names when the clock starts. For a course, the only honest start point is launch, because nothing can earn before it is live.
Ours: ROI within 120 days of launch.
That is a date. You can count to it. So can we.
What to check this week: for any builder you are talking to, find the window in writing. If there is none, ask for one. If they will not give one, you have your answer.
A guarantee without a remedy is a wish
The second part is what happens if the promise is missed.
"We guarantee results" and then silence is the most common version. It tells you nothing about what you get if the results do not come.
The remedy should be specific and useful. Ours: if you do not hit ROI within 120 days of launch, we keep working with you, at no additional cost, until you do.
We chose continued work over a refund on purpose. A refund on a custom build gives you money back and leaves you with an asset that is not selling yet. Continued work keeps the same team accountable to the outcome you hired us for. You wanted a business that sells without you in every room. The remedy should push toward that, not away from it.
If you want to see where your business stands before you talk to anyone about a build, the Expert Score takes a few minutes and shows which systems are missing.
A guarantee without your conditions is not honest
This is the half most builders leave off, and it is the half that tells you whether they mean it.
A course sells when three things happen: the content gets filmed, the launch gets posted, and the program goes live on schedule. We control the build. You control showing up to film and posting the launch.
So our guarantee applies when you complete your part: content filmed, launch posted as planned, program live on schedule.
Some people read conditions as fine print. I read the absence of conditions as the fine print. A guarantee with no client conditions is one of two things. Either the builder cannot actually honor it, or it is written loosely enough that they never have to. Both are worse for you than a clear set of conditions you can meet.
Your part is not heavy. It is the same part every expert already plays in their own business: show up and teach. You talk. You approve. We build. Then you post the launch we hand you.
Composite example: two ways a guarantee plays out
Composite example, numbers illustrative. Two experts sign with two different builders.
The first builder promised "guaranteed results" with no window and no conditions. The course launches late because filming slipped for two months. Sales are thin. The expert asks about the guarantee. The builder points out that the launch was late, the expert points out the guarantee never said anything about timing, and they go back and forth until everyone gives up. Nobody was lying. The guarantee just never said anything specific.
The second expert signs with a guarantee that names the window, the remedy, and the conditions. They film on schedule, post the launch as planned, and the program goes live on the agreed date. Day 120 after launch comes. If ROI is there, done. If it is not, the team keeps working at no extra cost. There is nothing to argue about, because the paragraph already answered it.
The difference is not the builder's intentions. It is whether the terms were written down.
How to read any guarantee in two minutes
Take the guarantee paragraph from any proposal and mark four things.
The promise. What exactly is guaranteed? ROI, a number of sales, a launch date?
The window. When does it start and end?
The remedy. What happens if it is missed?
Your conditions. What do you have to do for it to apply?
If you cannot mark all four, ask. A builder who stands behind their work will answer in writing. A builder who gets vague is telling you something about how the rest of the engagement will go.
The guarantee also sits next to how you pay. If you are weighing whether to finance a build, read Financing a Course Build Without Draining Your Cash before you sign anything.
What to do next
Pull the guarantee language from every proposal you have and mark the promise, window, remedy, and conditions on each.
Write down, honestly, whether you can meet the conditions: filming on schedule, posting your launch, going live on time. If not, fix your calendar before you sign, not after.
Ask every builder one more question: who is accountable if it does not sell? Get the answer in writing.
This is not legal advice. Have your own counsel read any contract before you sign it.
Ready to see the terms for your build?
We print the whole guarantee, both halves, and walk through it on the call.
Frequently asked questions
Do course creation companies offer guarantees?
Some do, and the wording varies a lot. Read for four things: what is promised, the time window, what happens if it is missed, and what the client has to do. A guarantee missing any of those is marketing copy, not a commitment you can hold anyone to.
What is the Freedom Builderz guarantee?
ROI within 120 days of launch. If you do not hit it, we keep working with you, at no additional cost, until you do. It applies when you complete your part: content filmed, launch posted as planned, and the program live on schedule.
Why does a course guarantee have conditions?
Because a course only sells if it gets filmed, launched, and promoted. The builder controls the build. The client controls showing up to film and posting the launch. A guarantee that ignores the client's half is either impossible to honor or written so it never has to be.
Is a money back guarantee better than a keep working guarantee?
It depends on what you need. A refund returns cash but leaves you with no working asset. A keep working guarantee keeps the team accountable to the outcome you hired them for. For a custom build where the work is already done, continued work is usually the more useful remedy.
